Their workflow can be summarized as follows: unwinding → cold roll forming → straightening → fixed-length inspection → synchronous shearing → collection of blanks. The entire process is typically automated by a programmable logic controller (PLC).

1. Raw Material Preparation

Raw material: Billets produced through continuous casting, whose chemical composition (e.g., carbon, manganese, silicon, etc.) strictly meets rebar grade standards.

Loading: Billets are fed into the heating furnace in an orderly manner via a chain elevator or walking beam.

2. Heating

Equipment: A walking beam heating furnace is typically used.

Purpose: To uniformly heat the billet to the austenitic temperature range of approximately 1050-1200°C, imparting good plasticity and facilitating deformation during rolling.

3. Rolling - The Heart of the Production Line
The rolling process is typically divided into multiple stages. Rollers arranged in roughing, intermediate, and finishing mills gradually reduce the billet to the target rebar diameter, forming surface ribs in the process.

 

The roughing mill performs the initial diameter reduction of large-section steel billets.

The intermediate rolling mill further reduces the diameter of the rolled product, bringing its cross-sectional shape closer to the finished product.

The finishing mill is the key step in the final forming process. Here, the rolled product passes through a specially grooved finishing mill stand. The rolls are engraved with grooves corresponding to the rib pattern of the steel bar, thus forming transverse and longitudinal ribs on the surface of the steel bar.

4. Thermomechanical Rolling - Key Process


Modern high-strength rebar (such as HRB400E and HRB500E) generally utilizes a combination of residual heat quenching and autotempering.

Process: After exiting the finishing mill, the rebar enters a high-efficiency water-through cooling unit, rapidly cooling the surface layer to form a hard martensite structure while the core remains hot.

Autotempering: After exiting the cooling unit, the heat from the core rapidly dissipates outward, "tempering" the martensite layer on the surface, creating a tempered bainite structure with excellent overall properties.

Advantages: Significantly improves the strength and toughness of the rebar without or with minimal addition of expensive alloying elements.

 

5. Finishing and Collection

Cooling Bed: Allows cooled rebar to run smoothly and further cool to room temperature while preventing bending.

Cold Shearing: Cuts long rebar into fixed lengths (e.g., 9m or 12m).

Straightening: A straightener eliminates bending that occurs during cooling and transportation.

Collecting and Bundling: Automatically counts and collects rebar, then uses a baler to bundle it into neat bundles for easy transportation and storage.
