Flux-cored wires are primarily categorized into two types: seamed and seamless. The key difference in their production lines lies in the processing performed after the seam is closed:
⚙️ Seamless vs. Seamed Construction
Seamed flux-cored wire: This is the most common type. A longitudinal seam remains after the steel strip is formed into a tube, as the production line does not include a welding step to close it.
Seamless flux-cored wire: After the steel strip is formed into a tube, an in-line welding process (such as high-frequency or laser welding) is added to seal the seam, resulting in a seamless tubular structure. Seamless wire effectively prevents moisture absorption by the flux core and is suitable for more demanding welding applications. The production technology involved is more complex, and the cost is higher.
